What is life about? Truth-in-life explained…

1) Life = Knowing God

Jesus answers this question in a very profound way in John 17:3, “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent“. True life is about knowing God. In a similar way, the prophet Jeremiah wrote in Jer. 9:23, that if there is one thing we should be priding ourselves in, it is in knowing God, “This is what the LORD says, ‘Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this: that he understands and knows me“. Life is not about learning, being physically healthy or having a healthy bank account… life is about understanding and knowing God personally. As the Westminster Catechism put it, “Question 1: What is the chief and highest end of man? Answer: Man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.

That’s what “Truth-in-life” is about, helping you in your journey in knowing God; seeing who He is displayed and finding your deepest joy and delight in Him.

2) Life = Living for God

Apart from knowing God, the Bible also tells us that we are made to make Him known. In Gen. 1:26-27, God tells us what we were created for, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” The idea of an image is having something that is a replica or mirror of the original. For example, when I take a picture of Chapmans Peak, that picture is an “image” of Chapmans Peak. It is not identical to the mountain, but it does reflect the mountain or mirror the mountain. The picture will give me an idea of what the mountain looks like. In the same way, we were created to “mirror”, “reflect”, “represent” God. We are His image-bearers, His representatives. As light reflects off a mirror, so we are made to reflect God to creation. To know Him and make Him known.

That’s what “Truth-in-life” is also about, helping you in your journey living for God; making Him known (the Truth) through your day-to-day life.
